Fluidstack 1GW France Sovereign AI Supercomputer — €10B Phase 1
Fluidstack signs MoU with French government to build one of world's largest decarbonized AI supercomputers. Phase 1: €10B investment, up to 500,000 next-gen AI chips, 1 GW compute power. Powered by France's nuclear grid (decarbonized). Operational 2026. Plans to scale beyond 1 GW by 2028. Introduces 'virtual data embassies' concept for collaborative-yet-sovereign infrastructure.
France 2030 — €109B AI Investment, 1.2M GPUs by 2030
Macron announces €109B total AI investment under France 2030 plan. Targets: deploy 1.2 million GPUs by 2030, train 100,000 AI professionals annually. Mistral Compute infrastructure stack launched: 40 MW Essonne data center with 18,000 NVIDIA Grace Blackwell + Blackwell Ultra GPUs, designed to eliminate foreign cloud dependency. Mistral $830M raised supports the Essonne build.
France has deployed Mistral AI across its military forces to accelerate operational decision-making. The integration represents a sovereign model being used in the most sensitive government function — defense — marking a milestone for EU sovereign AI independence from US providers.
Mistral €1.7B Raise + Military AI Deployment + GPU Debt
Mistral AI raised €1.7B at €11.7B valuation with ASML as largest shareholder (11%). Separately borrowing $830M from Bpifrance consortium for 13,800 GB300 GPUs (44MW capacity). France deploying Mistral AI across military for operational decision-making. Fluidstack Phase 1 (500K GPUs) targeting 2026 operational date.
France Advances Sovereign Cloud; Health Data Hub to Scaleway
France moved Health Data Hub to Scaleway (French sovereign cloud provider). EU sovereign cloud tenders in some cases explicitly excluding pure US hyperscalers. France leading regulatory-driven sovereign cloud adoption.
Fluidstack withdraws from EUR10B sovereign supercomputer; AMD signs multi-year LOI
Fluidstack pulled out of the marquee 1GW Bosquel AI supercomputer and a second Paris-area site used by Mistral, pivoting to US. Local authorities opened replacement bids. Separately, AMD signed a multi-year LOI with France to advance sovereign AI through Alice Recoque exascale supercomputer (GENCI/CEA), Center of Excellence, and open ecosystem development.
SoftBank Commits €75B for 5GW French AI Data Center Buildout
SoftBank Group announced its largest-ever European AI infrastructure commitment: up to €75B to develop and operate 5GW of AI data center capacity in France. Phase 1 commits €45B for 3.1GW in the Hauts-de-France region (Dunkirk/Loon-Plage, Bosquel, Bouchain) before end of 2031. SoftBank partners with Schneider Electric for an industrial production cluster in Dunkirk; French state-owned nuclear utility EDF transfers the decommissioned Bouchain power plant to be repurposed as a data center. Personal Son-Macron diplomacy underwrites the deal.
